NIFT-TEA College of Knitwear Fashion, established by Tirupur Exporters Association, here has signed an MoU with Scottish Colleges International (SCI), an apex body of Scotland colleges, in the area of fashion design.

Speaking after signing the pact, Raja M Shanmugam, Chairman of the Indian institution said “The cooperation will be for greater understanding in the areas of technical research in knitwear and for creation of elaborate design portfolios catering to the emerging needs in the global apparel trade.

The NIFT-TEA was selected by the SCI for the collaborative work after the British Deputy High Commission recognised the strides the institute had made in design creation and fashion since Mr. Raja Shanmugam took over as its chairman a few years ago.

It was for the first time the SCI was entering into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with a textile institute in India although a few faculty exchange programmes with the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad existed in the past.
The joint initiative between the NIFT-TEA institute and the SCI would be on curriculum development, delivery of designs, capacity building of respective textile clusters, and resources sharing.
