Networking hindrances in on-line question papers: Principals

Updated on: Wednesday, February 16, 2011

College principals has urged Nagaland University authorities to weigh all pros a nd cons before introducing 'on-line undergraduate examinations and semester system' in the varsity.

Nagaland College Principals' Forum (NCPF) held an emergency meeting recently regarding the on-line undergraduate examinations and semester system to be introduced in the state by the university.
In this regard, the NCPF has written to the Nagaland University vice-chancellor referring to the apprehensions on the implementation of the on-line delivery of question papers at the examination centres just one hour before the Commencement of the examination.

The principals, however, made it clear that the forum supported the initiative to implement the conclusions arrived at a 'Seminar on Examination Reforms and Management' held on July 2 last year.

But since the university authorities proposed to deliver question papers online one hour before the commencement of the examinations, the NCPF expressed concern that given the erratic power and network problems in the state, it might hinder the initiative.

"Instead of imposing EDC outright during last part of January this year, the university could have done a mock exercise on EDC well ahead of time, at least during October/November last year", the forum said in the letter.

On the issue of introduction of semester system in 2011, the NCPF asked the university to provide the colleges with all the necessary materials, course structure and syllabi by March next as the first year degree classes would commence in May next.

Since introduction of semester system needs certain preparations, the four member committee of principals suggested the university introduced the new system from 2012 acasemic session, the letter pointed out.
