"Call center" is the ultimate talk of many youngsters, HR industry and even young school completing children during the last decade.

Call center,  actually is a component of Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), which provides services to third parties in segments like customer care, healthcare, data entry, marketing and sales, and banking and finance. For various reasons, multinational companies from UK and US outsource major part of their operations to countries like India, Philippines and Singapore.   

The very name reveals that a call center is a work place where calls are made and also received. It is a contact point for customers and to be customers, to form a business relationship. It may cater to their own customers or to the customers of other business establishments.

A call center is adequately equipped with telecom facilities, access to wide database, internet and other online support information. The number of persons working in a call center depends on the project that the company handles.

Generally, a call center consists of rooms with several workstations provided with a hi-tech computer attached to a headset.  These individual workstations (computers) are connected to a main server.

Over the past few years call center jobs have attracted scores of youngsters possessing good spoken skills in English as well as native languages, particularly for its lucrative pay package and flamboyant lifestyle. Those with good spoken English get an opportunity to work in international call center and those having the flare in domestic language move on to domestic call centers.
 
For example, a typical call center functions in the following manner. A person residing in US wants get particular information about a product using a toll free number. This call made by the person is routed to a call center in India where an executive specialized in the particular product gives all necessary details for the caller clearly and convincingly. Such call centers are termed In-bound call center.

Likewise, those Call centers that make calls to customer to sell particular product or a concept is known as Out-bound call center.

Domestic call centers are those that cater to the need of the local people where it is based. Good communication skill in local languages is the most important factor to be a part of the call center.
Getting a job in an international call center requires excellent spoken skills in English. In the same way to get an employment in a domestic call center requires good spoken skills in a particular domestic language.
