Ahmedabad: Even after the completion of course, five students of the one-year Postgraduate Programme in Management for Executives at IIM-A, are yet to find jobs

Out of the 77 successful candidates this year, 63 students got domestic placements, two secured overseas jobs, while four have gone in for ventures in clean environment and other projects  Three did not seek placements. Whereas the second batch attained full placement of the 69 students (62 domestic jobs and seven overseas).

Launched to fill the void in the middle and top level posts in 2006 “ 2007, this is the third batch of the course. The students of third batch are in the lurch, unable to get jobs owing to global recession, the students of the first two batches were absorbed by multi-nationals and top business houses. Even those who had got jobs get less salary than the students of the previous years.

In the last year  the average domestic salary came down from Rs. 26.81 lakh to Rs. 20.16 lakh this year; and the salary for overseas offers dipped from $ 1.45 lakh to $ 1.22 lakh, a spokesman of the IIM-A said. The institute would continue to help students who were yet to get jobs, he added.

As the full-time residential programme is meant for executives with experience, most of the candidates  are middle-level managers, who quit their jobs to join the course. A very few are sponsored by their  employers and go back to the same establishment once they successfully complete the course.
