CBSE Students prefer state board to score high marks

Chennai: CBSE students yearning to join state board schools for class XI shows no sign of abating. The reason is not to get more marks in class XII board examination.

More number of students from various schools affiliated to CBSE in the city who had completed class X this year seem to prefer pursuing higher secondary (class XI and XII) education in private matriculation schools as they stand a better chance to earn more marks in the class XII examination.

Dr N. Vijayan, president of Principals of Matriculation Schools and principal of Zion Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Selaiyur, said numerous matriculation schools had reported that more number of students from CBSE were migrating to private matriculation schools as the syllabi in state board was easier than CBSE and students could score more marks in classXII examination.

'The CBSE system tests a student's analytical skills, apart from his reasoning skills but the state board stream only tests the studentâ€™s memorising skills as questions are asked from the books only,' he added.

One student who joined class-XI in a private matriculation school in the city after passing Class X from a CBSE school said on condition of anonymity that his seniors who had pursued class XI and XII in CBSE had said they found it difficult.

'It is difficult for a student like me to score more marks in CBSE, so after advice from parents, school seniors and teachers, I decided to join the state board stream,
