Eight universities that provide facilities for studying foreign languages had been listed earlier in these columns.

The pattern of the part-time programmes is in general as follows:

Intensive certificate: four and a half months

Diploma: one year

Intensive diploma: four and a half months

Advanced diploma: one year

One-year courses will be held three days a week, two hours per day.

Four-and-a-half-month long intensive courses will be held five days a week, two hours per day.

Eligibility for part-time programmes:

For beginners (certificate/ intensive certificate) courses: SSLC or equivalent.

Diploma courses: certificate or intensive certificate in the same language

Advanced diploma courses: Diploma course in the same language

Special courses: Advanced diploma or BA in the same language

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan

French, Spanish, Chinese and Japanese: Two-year courses divided into four semesters of five months each. There will be an examination at the end of each semester. Students coming out successful in the examination after the second semester will be awarded the certificates. Those who pass the examination held after the fourth semester will be awarded diploma.

Emphasis is given in conversation and translation in the third, fourth semesters.

Arabic and Russian: One-year certificate courses divided into two semesters of five months each.

German: One semester intensive course, leading to admission at Max Mueller Bhavan for further study.

Eligibility for admission: Plus Two. Classes commence in January and August.

One-year advanced diploma course in French: Those who have cleared the fourth semester examination in French are eligible for admission.

Blended learning: 18 weeks

Further, different types of courses are being conducted as per request.
