Premier B-school Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, today said it has initiated the process of setting up a fund, which will provide support to research on emerging economies.
"We shall set up a fund that will provide support not only to the IIM-A faculty but to faculty from anywhere who undertakes research on emerging economy," Director of the institute Samir Barua said while addressing the 4th biennial IIM-A Conference on 'Marketing in Emerging Economies'.

"Although, the fund size is not known, but it will be a substantially large fund," Piyush Kumar Sinha, a member of IIM-A conference co-ordination committee said.

"Faculty of any business school working on emerging economies can send their proposal to IIM-A and seek funding from institution once the fund is launched," he said.

There is no fixed time-line for the launch of the fund, but IIM-A is expecting it will come up soon, Sinha said.

The IIM-A faculty has also prepared a bibliography of over 1,200 published articles on marketing in India and all over the world.

"This bibliography has been prepared with a view that we will ultimately prepare a bibliography of marketing literature on all the emerging countries," Abhinandan Kumar Jain said, who is one of the guides for this project at IIM-A.

Its a compilation of the published articles captured in various databases across the world and condensed into one booklet, he said.

With the opening of world market, many Indian companies and firms from other emerging countries such as Brazil, Indonesia, Philippines and Argentina are looking to become global brands so the IIM-A is deliberating on the issues and challenges they face, he said.

Over 411 delegates from 23 countries are participating in the conference. A total of 105 research papers will be presented by 205 authors, who are largely professors from B-schools.
