Communicating the need for change

Updated on: Monday, January 03, 2011

The outcome of Mangalayatan University’s continuous efforts to develop proficient professional courses to bridge the gap between industry and academia and make its students well qualified for industry have culminated in an MoU being signed with the Mudra Institute of Communications (MICA). Under this, the Institute of Journalism and Mass Communi-cation of Mangalayatan University will work closely with MICA and offer joint programmes in various communication specialisations. The association will bring to the fore MICA’s expertise in communication programmes, while Mangalayatan University will bring its experience — in devising industry-specific programmes — to the table thus equipping students with technical skills as well as other essential soft skills such as teamwork, innovation, global mobility, strong communication, flexibility and learning.

Said Mohan Lakhamraju, Vice Chairman, Mangala-yatan University, “It’s a significant development for Mangalayatan University as we see a soaring demand for quality communication professionals these days and a considerable shortage of well trained and qualified talent in the country, particularly in smaller cities. Our association with MICA will facilitate quality education and industry awareness to aspirants from these cities and will also fulfill the industry demand for skilled professionals. MICA’s expertise in diverse communication courses combined with our commitment in preparing students for the industry will help pave the way for us to achieve the desired goals that we lay down for our students.”

Dr. Ashok Ranchhod, Director, MICA said that they were “happy to collaborate with Mangalayatan University in the field of communications management,” noting that the association would lead to the birth of a dynamic generation of communication professionals equipped to handle the challenges of the upcoming era.

The two organisations will also conduct regular seminars to enable idea exchanges, faculty training and student exchanges, enabling members of both organisations to benefit from each other’s strengths.
