A Pollution freed   solar-powered car was innovated by a team of four students from Sudharsan Engineering College.

Zero-fuel cost was the main advantage of the car, said Head of Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering A. Ravi, who guided the students to bring up solar powered car.

The model, developed by V. Rattan Kumar, C. Christy Selvakumar, S. Alagarswamy and C. Selvaprabu  all final year students of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, is based on the basic principle of a battery-operated car. A special motor _ brushless permanent magnet DC motor of 24V, 240W _ controlled by a microprocessor is used in the car.Hall throttle controls the speed.

A couple of 12V specially designed solar tubular batteries feed the power. We used two solar panels of 20V, 37 Watts each connected in series to get an output power of 74W and a peak current of 2.5A. For the demonstration purpose, we used 74W panels. One can use panels of 600W with peak current of 40A, so that it can be charged within an hour, they said.
