Thrust on quality education - IGNOU vice chancellor

Highlighting the major academic steps that the Indira Gandhi National Open University  (IGNOU) has taken in 2010, Vice Chancellor V.N Rajasekharan Pillai said the University does not have to be dependent on government funding for running educational programmes as it has successfully signed several MoUs with the public and private institutions in past months and is looking for educational opportunities outside the formal educational structure.

"We intend to further harness technology for expansion of our clientele and pave the way in the Open and Distance Learning arena," added Pillai in the latest edition of 'Learning at its Best.'

A major quality intervention that IGNOU achieved this year is the introduction of the Student/Learner Satisfaction Survey, which was implemented with the objectives of gathering inputs from each and every learner about the performance of the University and the benefits they received from IGNOU System.

"This initiative is a first of its kind in the country and includes specific questions relating to employment opportunities, quality of content for learning, and educational outcomes. The Learner Satisfaction Survey was open to all students of the University and the responses received were tremendous. The feedback has helped us initiate refinements and corrections in the course  curriculum. The Survey is now a mandatory aspect of the academic programme and will be administered every year," he added.

He further stated, "Secondly, the concept of Community Thrust on quality education - IGNOU vice chancellor.
