'Don't start nursery admission before guidelines come

Delhi Government today warned private schools not to start the process for nursery admissions before issuance of relevant guidelines and said punitive action will be taken against the violators.
Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said the schools will have to comply with Right to Education Act and government was drafting comprehensive guidelines for admissions into nursery classes incorporating provisions of RTE.

He said strict action will follow against schools which have started the process for nursery admission.

Officials said all the private schools will have to reserve 25 per cent of total seats for poor students and Government will provide financial help to the schools for these students.

They said government may provide Rs 150 per student per month to the schools.

Asked about private schools contemplating increasing fee to implement RTE, Lovely said no school will be allowed to hike fee to implement the act.

Lovely said there are "several key issues" which need to be sorted out before full implementation of the RTE and he will soon approach Union HRD Ministry to seek clarification on them.
