National Workshop on Martial Art forms in Kozhikode

With the objective to explore the rich cultural heritage of India and emphasise the need to preserve rare art forms in the changing social milieu of the
country, a two-day National Workshop on martial art forms of Kerala and North East India, 'Malabar meets Manipur', will be held here on November 6 and 7.
There will be lecture, demonstrations, performances, exhibitions and variety entertainment programmes with different art forms and musical streams, Prof K S D Nair, Regional Director, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), told mediapersons here, today.
   
Lecture demonstrations and performances will be mainly on martial art forms of Kalaripayattu and theyyam, popular in North Malabar and Thang-ta of Manipur, he said.
   
In addition, there willbe scholarly presentations on the link between martial arts and traditional medical systems like massaging and related preparations and the importance of folk medicine and its umbilical relationship with traditional art forms like kalaripayattu and theyyam, he said.
   
Governor of Meghalaya R S Mooshahary, will inaugurate the workshop and Union minister of state for home Mullapally Ramachandran, will deliver the special address, he said.
