Dalit kids denied admission in anganwadi center

Two children belonging to dalit community were allegedly denied admission at the anganwadi school at Oddiso village in Orissa's Jajpur district.

The incident came to light after victims mother brought it to the notice of the authorities. According to the complaint filed with the secretary, Women and Child Development department and a copy of which was also given to the district collector by Tulasi Sethy of Oddiso village stated that her children were denied admission into the village Anganwadi centre as they belong to Dalit community.

Jajpur Collector Pramod Kumar Mohanty said an enqiry into the incident has been ordered. The Anganwadi worker being an upper caste lady allegedly declined to admit the duo on the ground of untouchability.

There is only one Anganwadi centre run by the government at the village and all children have to go for pre-school education and food distributed there for free.
