Italian schools in Kolkata

Two Italian art and design schools have launched courses in Kolkata.

Domus Academy [DA] and Nuova Accademia Di Belle Arti Milano [NABA] — part of Laureate International Universities network, a global leader in higher education for Art and Design — have launched special courses in the field of Art & Design to entice professionals and talented students of Kolkata.

Domus Academy, the first post-graduate design and fashion school in Italy, is also introducing the ‘Technotalents’ competition under its Interaction Design Course’s 5th Edition for autumn 2011. This exclusive competition, which offers a 50% discount on the tuition fees for two winners, is available for design talents who want to pursue a career in Information and Communication Technology.

The deadline ends on October 31, 2010, with the results scheduled to be declared by November 10, 2010, via e-mail to the participants.

The one year Interaction Design Masters’ course trains designers with practical and conceptual tools -- needed to develop ICT concepts and strategies – and blending design and creative sensitivities with more specific skills.

“With many great Indian students already studying at Domus Academy, we would like to see more Indian talents participate in the ‘Technotalents’ competition and win the scholarships to join us,” said the Regional Admissions Manager for Asia at Laureate Italian Art & Design Education.

Domus Academy has also introduced Service Design course for January 2011. Service design is a relatively recent interdisciplinary practice that emphasizes the centrality of users and the user experience into service management and innovation, promoted by a growing community of academic and professional practitioners.

Recently, Domus Academy and Veneta Cucine, modern and classic kitchens Italian designers, launched ‘IN-DIA KITCHEN’ competition for Indian students and professionals from this sector. “This initiative helped us to study the space and product relationships between Western kitchens and those of a large country like India dealing with the vast cultural and social transformations of the past decades,” said Brivio.

The winners received scholarships worth EUR 54,400 for the Masters in Design course valid for 2011 (January-December).
