Copious research opportunities across the globe

Updated on: Friday, March 20, 2009

Tiruchi: Plenty of opportunities are available in research and post-doctoral research around the globe. Students from rural areas do not know how to tap the avenues for research  schemes of funding agencies, although they have the right potential.

Through the State-level seminar on Recent Advances in Chemistry, organised by the PG Department of Chemistry earlier this week, the students of Periyar E.V.R. College (Autonomous) were exposed to the opportunities for a career in research by eminent scientists, including M. Palaniandavar, Dean of Science and Technology, Bharathidasan University, and N. Sulochana, Head, IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) Cell, National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi.

Overcoming their poor knowledge of English as they were spurred with high aspirations, many had risen to glorious positions in world-renowned research organizations, Dr. Palaniandavar told students.

Inaugurating the seminar, Dr. Sulochana urged students not to be satisfied with simple jobs.

G. Balasubramanian, Head, Department of Chemistry, Periyar E.V.R. College, and B.R. Venkatraman, organising secretary, explained the scope and expectations of the seminar.

Principal A. Paul Selvaraj presided over the inaugural and valedictory sessions. He focussed on the indispensability of chemistry in day-to-day life.
