We need to look beyond students' fee hike - IIM Calcutta director

Updated on: Saturday, October 09, 2010

Options other than students' fee hike should be generated to augment the source of income of institutes, director of the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIM-C) Shekhar Chaudhuri said here on Friday.

"I personally feel that options other than hiking of students fees for income generation should be explored," Chaudhuri told reporters at the sidelines of the Higher Education Meet 2010.

The IIM-C board of governors earlier this year decided to raise the fees for the two-year post-graduate diploma in management programme from Rs.9 lakh to Rs.13.5 lakh from the current academic session (2010-12).

The IIM-C then said that hike was necessary to cope with the increased expenditure in infrastructure, greater faculty allocation and spending in research related activities.

The hiked fee was at par with that of IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore.
