3000 crore for 16 central universities

The Union Cabinet has approved the proposal for incurring an expenditure to the tune of 3000 crore for setting up of 13 new central universities. This plan also includes the conversion of three state universities to central universities.

16 Central Universities were established in various states by the Central Universities Act, 2009. The proposed move will increase access and enhance the quality of higher education in the country.
