Offshore campus to come up at next meet of IIM directors

Opening of offshore campus of the Indian Institute of Management is expected to come up at the next IIM Directors' meet here next week.

Sources said IIMs are upbeat on this venture, given HRD Minister Kapil Sibal's support for the offshore campus.

At an earlier meeting with the directors, Sibal had said the Centre does not have any ‘in-principle’ objection to the IIMs setting up offshore campuses.

IIMs have contended that foreign campuses will not only benefit them but will also help them to fill the gap created by demand-supply mismatch and extend the spread IIMs' appeal far and wide.

Providing further autonomy to IIMs, revamping of courses and several other issues are also likely to be discussed at the meeting which would be chaired by Sibal on October 13.

Reports suggest IIMs are also in favour of holding the online CAT test. The online format introduced last year is at present being conducted by Promatric.
