Sri Ramachandra University on Monday launched three new courses as part of its silver jubilee celebrations, 75th birthday of its founder-chancellor N.P.V. Ramasamy Udayar and the University Day function.

Launching the new courses, Union Shipping Minister G.K. Vasan said that if India had to reach the level of developed countries in health care, then students had a critical role to play.

Mentioning that the services of the medicos were needed in rural areas, he asked them to serve patients in rural areas willingly instead of focussing on metros or foreign countries.

The Minister launched two one-year full time post graduate diploma courses in translational clinical research and in pre-clinical biological models and on-line courses on research ethics in collaboration with CITI, University of Miami. He also laid the foundation plaques for Sports Medicine Centre, staff quarters and P.G. student's hostel and they will be ready within a year.

Mr. Vasan distributed gold medals to 35 meritorious students, book-prizes to 63 students and four awards for the research publications made by the students.

S.P. Thyagarajan, Pro-Chancellor (Research) said that the new diploma courses would provide a unique opportunity for students to become industry-ready manpower for joining hospitals, research centres and pharma industries involved in the conduct of clinical trials and pre-clinical toxicology work for drug development. V.R. Venkataachalam, Chancellor, Sri Ramachandra University, distributed founder-Chancellor cash awards to 13 students, Harvard Medical International scholarship awards to 11 students and honoured 34 employees for having served the university for 25 years.
