Updated on: Tuesday, September 21, 2010

Universities across the country should take the initiative for growth and development of knowledge economy, IGNOU Vice-Chancellor V N Rajasekharan Pillai said today.

A system should be developed to educate every branch of society by using knowledge and skills of all sections of teachers, he said inaugurating an academic programme of the newly-started Community College at the State Resource Centre here.

IGNOU was planning to provide higher education to different sections and award certificates to them without hindering their respective vocations, he said.

The Open University had evolved a scheme 'Vijnana Deepam' through which higher education was being provided to 97,000 jawans, Pillai said.
