Medical college orders probe into ragging

Updated on: Saturday, September 18, 2010

After a first-year post-graduate student at the Maulana Azad Medical College here complained of ragging in the hostel premises by a group of seniors on Sunday night, the hospital administration has ordered an enquiry into the matter.

“The 23-year-old student had lodged a complaint with the Dean as well as the Delhi Police on Monday, alleging ‘misbehaviour/ragging' by a group of five seniors from the department,'' said College Dean Dr. A. K. Agarwal.

The Dean has also constituted a committee of three members -- Dr. Veena Choudhary, Dr. Swaraj Batra and Dr. Richa Diwan -- to look into the incident. “We formed a fact-finding committee on Monday after we were informed about the incident. After it submitted a report on Tuesday, we forwarded it to the apex committee. The next course of action will depend on the report of the apex committee that is expected to be submitted later this week,'' added Dr. Agarwal.
