Maha plans six ITIs on PPP basis for minority students

Maharashtra has planned six ITIs and three polytechnic colleges on Public Private Partnership (PPP) basis for minority students.

Minority affairs minister Mohammed Arif Naseem Khan said six districts Washim, Nanded, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Pune, Nashik have been identified for setting up the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs).

"The process of identifying NGOs who are experts in the field, is on and there has been a good response from them. Minority affairs secretary is heading a committee to decide the eligibility," he said.

The eligible NGOs will have their own land taken on a 25 year agreement and infrastructure while Rs 3 crore each would be provided by the government.

Justifying the decision to have private partners, Khan said the government wanted responsible people to run the ITIs and it was not possible for the government to take the entire financial burden.

Meanwhile, the government has identified two places Dongri in Mumbai city and Chandivali in the suburbs to set up ITIs in the country's financial capital.

"We are looking for land in Chandivali while in Dongri it has been acquired," he said.

According to him, about 4000 students from minority sections would be benefited every year in terms of getting skilled jobs.

He said polytechnic colleges would be set up in Mumbai, Malegaon and Bhiwandi for minority classes students on PPP basis. Khan said getting these initiatives would help minority youth get employment and come to the mainstream.
