SAARC University to be formally launched next week

The South Asian University, which is a joint initiative of the eight countries forming the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) will be formally launched next week. The academic session has already begun and the first batch consists of 50 students.

There are 14 foreign nationals enrolled in the courses here- Five from Bangladesh, four from Nepal, two each from Pakistan and Bhutan and one from Sri Lanka. The students are enrolled for courses in Masters of Computer Application (MCA) or Masters of Economics (MA). This was a dream project envisaged by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Aitzaz Shah, a student from Pakistan, said that the exposure being given to students by way of studying with people from different countries make the learning experience at SAU completely worthwhile.

Apart from the academics, visiting various tourist destinations in India is also on the agenda of the foreign students.
