Reforms mooted in Common Entrance Examination in Kerala

In a step towards reforming edcuation sector, Kerala cabinet today decided to change the norms for admission to professional courses from next academic year.
 
As per the new norms, the marks obtained for qualifying exam would also be considered along with the marks obtained for entrance examination for admission to courses, Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan told reporters after a cabinet meeting here.
 
The Cabinet approved draft of the bill for Professional Courses Entrance Examination and decided to send it for the approval of the Centre, he said.
 
The proposal was that 50 per cent of the total marks secured in qualiying examination for medical/engineering, higher secondary, would be taken along with the 50 per cent marks received by a candidate in entrance examination, sources said.
 
It also approved to assign 82 acres of land to Tata Consultancy Service to set up a state-of-the-art campus at the Technocity, coming up as part of expansion of Technopark near here.
 
An investment of Rs 2000 crore was expected for the project and it was estimated to give training to 10,000 to 15,000 IT professionals at a time once the campus becomes a reality, the Chief Minister said.
