In an effort to improve the immunity of kids in Tamil Nadu, Minister for Health and Family Welfare M.R.K. Pannerselvam announced that three eggs a week will be provided to every school student for free.

Pannerselvam spoke at a function organized to inaugurate two new buildings and facilities worth Rs. 14.56 crore in five government hospitals of the district.

The minister said that being rich in protein, the eggs would provide children with much-needed nutrition as well as immunity against diseases. "The proteins in eggs would help in the healthy physical development of children. Having a healthy body would enable them to concentrate on their education better," he said.

He further stated that children who would eat 12 eggs a month for 10 years will get enough immunity to fight common diseases and said that the scheme would help in making the next generation stronger.

The eggs for the scheme for school students are being provided by the state's Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. He had also provided the Kalaignar Insurance Scheme for Life Saving Treatments for the current generation.
