Narikurava' residential school reopened

A residential school for 'Narikurava' (nomads) children near here, which stopped functioning in 2006, has been reopened on the orders of Nagapattinam District Collector C Munianathan.
 
The school was established at Vedaranyam during 2004 with a view to providing education to the children of Narikuravas. The aim of the residential school was to provide basic education to Narikurava children and bring them to the mainstream schools.The school stopped functioning in  2006.
 
Taking action on media reports in this regard,Collector Munianathan ordered immediate reopening of the school under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) Scheme.
 
In a function held at Vedaranyam, MLA SK Vedaratnam inaugurated the  school. Vedranyam Municipal Chairman Meenakshisundaram, Chief Educational Officer (SSA) Stephen Sundarraj, SSA District Coordinator Prabhu, SSA Supervisor Dhanalakshmi, BDOs Murthy and Anbudurai and other officials participated.
