Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said the Human Resources Development Ministry would allocate Rs 2.31 lakh crore over the next 3 years for setting for implementing RTE Act.

" The Human Resource Development Minister has said Rs 2,31,000 crore will be required for implementing RTE in the next three years for setting up schools, appointment of teachers and building of infrastructure. I said the money will be provided,'" Mukherjee said while speaking at a seminar on 'Economic vision of Indian National Congress' here.

The Minister was speaking in the context of the recent decision of the Centre to go for nationwide consultation process with stakeholders for implementation of the RTE Act.

Mukherjee said the Government would also provide legal teeth to the Right to Health and Right to Food through legal enactments.

Providing budgetary support for implementation of such rights was possible because of the economic growth that the country achieved over the past few years, he said.
