No delay in receiving degree certificates: UGC

Pune: Universities will award the degrees within 180 days of the date by which the students are expected to quality and become eligible for them.

The University Grants Commission (UGC), the apex higher education regulatory body, has now mandated all universities including deemed universities to come up with timetables for awarding degrees every academic year.

Graduates seeking for employment or higher education in abroad were directly affected by delay in receiving their degree certificates from university.

To resolve this inconvenience to graduates, the UGC Regulations for Grant of Degrees  as ordered that at the beginning of each academic year, each university shall announce its academic calendar, giving the schedules for all its activities during the year. In addition to the schedules for academic activities like courses and examinations, the calendar shall also include the dates for degree awards.

The UGC under secretary V K Jaiswal has in a recent communication to registrars of all universities in the country said that these regulations are mandatory and shall apply to all universities and institutions affiliated to universities.
