South Asian University starts in Delhi this month: Govt

The first academic session of South Asian University commences in the last week of this month, government informed Rajya Sabha today.

The university is being launched with two post-graduate courses- Master of Arts in Development Economics and Master of Computer Applications, Human Resource Development(HRD) Minister Kapil Sibal said in a written reply.

The New Delhi-based university, set up as per the decision of the 8-nation South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), will also have specialised and multi-disciplinary centers in other SAARC countries.

Of the 239.93 million dollars commited for the university, 7,56,000 dollars have been released so far, the Minister said. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan and Afghanistan are member countries of the SAARC.
