Govt to set up hotel management college

The centrally funded Institute of Hotel Management at Hassan would start functioning this year, Principal Secretary, Tourism Department K Jyoti Ramalingam said today.

The government had proposed to start five more such institutes in the state, which would come up at Gulbarga, Bellary, Belgaum, Shimoga and Mangalore, he said.

Talking to reporters here he said IHMs would be fully-funded by the centre government. But the state government would provide the required land free of cost. The new IHMs would address the lack of skilled manpower in the hospitality industry in the state. He said a Food Craft Institute (FCI) would also be set up at Gadag. Under private-public partnership (PPP) mode a golf course, an aqua marine park and a scuba diving facility were planned at Mangalore, the official added. He reviewed the progress of various tourism development projects in the district today. It was also planned to set up a jungle resort in Gulbarga for which identification of site was under progress, he said
