Government approves change in UPSC exam pattern

Updated on: Thursday, August 05, 2010

The Government has approved the proposal for introduction of the Civil Services Aptitude Test (CSAT) in place of the Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination.

The CSAT is expected to come into effect from the Civil Services Examination to be conducted in 2011. The examination will be transparent, which will enable screening of candidates having the right aptitude for Civil Services.

In CSAT, an optional subject, which a candidate earlier chose out of 23 optional ones, would be replaced with a common paper for testing the aptitude of the candidate.

The syllabus for CSAT is being worked out by the UPSC. The test would be aimed at providing a greater degree of level-playing field to candidates of different backgrounds.

This information was given by the Minister of State of Personnel, Public Grievances & Pensions Prithviraj Chavan in a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today.
