The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is mulling to set up an Indo-US Energy Centre on the campus here following discussions with American Special Envoy Rashad Hussain, officials said here today.

The proposal was put forward during deliberations between AMU officials and a group of American diplomats led by Hussain yesterday.

In the discussions, AMU expressed its desire to invite US President Barack Obama to Aligarh during his forthcoming visit to India for conferring him an honorary degree, they said.

Hussain, who was on a nine-day visit to India, was appointed by the US president in February as part of his government's initiative to "deepen and expand its relationship with the Muslim world". Hussain left for US yesterday.

His family has roots in Gorakhpur, Patna and Aligarh and he is a product of Yale Law School.
