SRM inks pact with La Trobe

SRM University, Kattankulathur, on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding with Australian university La Trobe for cooperation in civil, electrical and electronics and software engineering at the graduate- and post-graduate level.

Brian McGaw, Dean, Faculty of Science, Technology and Engineering of the Australian university signed the MoU and exchanged documents with N. Sethuraman, Registrar, SRM University and M. Ponnavaiko, Provost and Chief of Academics. Mr. McGaw said La Trobe had 27,000 students of whom 6,500 were overseas students. About 1,000 were from India, he said. He said the strengths of SRM University were nanotechnology and bio-technology and they hoped to work closely with each other in these areas. SRM University authorities said the objective of the MoU was to promote joint education and research by exchange of students and staff and to foster this exchange, the students would be exempted from application, tuition and admission fee. Under this programme, students would spend half their tenure in SRM and then move on to La Trobe in Australia and obtain the relevant degree.

Among others present on the occasion were Nandi Lakshmanan and Manoj Kumar Vadavat, Senior International Officer and International Development Manager respectively, La Trobe.
