Steps to get MCI approval for Govt MC

Updated on: Tuesday, July 20, 2010

Govt would take necessary steps,to get approval from Medical Council Of India (MCI) for a medical college, Union Minister of State for Planning and Parliamentary Affairs V Narayanasamy said.

The Board of Governors of the MCI had last week rejected approval for the medical college. A notification on the website of the MCI had announced "no approval" for the establishment of the medical college by the Puducherry Medical College Society for the academic year 2010-11.

"It is indeed surprising that MCI has not assigned any reason for disapproving the establishment of the medical college", he told reporters here. There was also no official communication from the MCI in this regard to Puducherry government, he said.

Narayanasamy said he along with Chief Minister V Vaithilingam and Health Miniter E Valsaraj had taken up the matter with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and  Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi.

The territorial government had already recruited doctors, nurses and dean for the college expecting it would get MCI's approval and spent about Rs 120 crore for infrastructures, he said.
