The Mavelikara police on Tuesday arrested two students in connection with Monday's violence in the Nooranad Archana Engineering College. Both the students are activists of the Students' Federation of India (SFI), which had been on strike against the installation of closed circuit cameras in the college. On Monday, they had damaged the cameras and a computer in the college.

The two students, Sreejith of Kayamkulam and Arun of Nooranad, are from among 23 persons against whom the police have registered a case in connection with the violence, which saw 16 CC cameras installed in classrooms and other parts of the college, apart from the computer to which the cameras were connected in the college Principal's room, being damaged.

Meanwhile, the SFI district leadership stated that it will continue its strike till the management agreed not to install cameras on the college premises. The cameras were invading the privacy of the students, the student leaders felt, and said the college would not be allowed to function till the issue was solved with total removal of the cameras.
