ITBP rewards its meritorious Board students, more plans on anvil

To encourage children of their jawans to strive harder and achieve their career goals, the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) today rewarded meritorious Class Xth and XIIth students even as the force plans to expand its incentives for them.

Kicked off from this year, the reward scheme is an initiative of the Himveer Wives' Welfare Association (HWWA), the social welfare arm of the ITBP.

Twenty students securing above 75 per cent in class Xth were given a Certificate of Appreciation, a memento and Rs 1,000 while 10 students securing above 75 per cent in class XIIth were given a Certificate of Appreciation, a memento and Rs 2,000.

Sadhna Bhatia, wife of ITBP DG Ranjeet Bhatia and HWWA president said the rewards were an instrument of encouragement for students and their parents who are a means of constant support for a child.

She disclosed that the HWWA was planning to provide more incentives and benefits for students to pursue academics.

''Facilities like provision of hostels and scholarships to pursue higher studies are being thought of. As of now, this is the best we could do,'' she said.

The rewarded students, many of whom belonged to remote corners of the country, lack access to latest technology and well-equipped coaching centres.

''The fathers are away on duty for long periods. It is the mother who takes care of the child's education. But the blessings of both are key,'' Ms Bhatia pointed out.

The merit list was long and listed students from places as diverse as Chamoli in Uttarakhand, Shivpuri in Madhya Pradesh and Kochi in Kerala.

While Bhagirathi of Uttarakhand, daughter of a head constable and Yasharth of Faizabad, son of a Directorate General Second-in-Command officer scored a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 10 in Class Xth by securing 95 per cent each, Rahul Upreti of Shivpuri scored 92.6 per cent in Class XIIth examinations.

Most rewardees gave their exams through Kendriya Vidyalayas under Central Board of Secondary Education.
