Academia-industry interface important: Ansari

 Greater interaction between academia and industry in various fields would be beneficial to the country in the longer-term, Vice President M Hamid Ansari said here on Saturday.

He was speaking after inaugurating the Inter University Centre for Bio-sciences under Kannur University here.

“Sharing of facilities for research and exchange of skills and knowledge will contribute in the longer term to a more networked, more efficient and more productive university system”, Mr. Ansari said.

In addition to core academic programmes, inter-university centres would also promote visitor academic programmes and assist in continuing education of the teaching fraternity, he said.

Referring to the centre set up by the University, he said it would provide an impetus to harnessing the herbal wealth and traditional knowledge systems in North Malabar region within the framework of advanced science and technology.

This goal could be achieved in the context of inter- disciplinary study and research, interface with academic institutions and the national laboratory systems and the industry in the country, the Vice-president said.

Kerala Governor R. S. Gavai presided over the function. State Education Minister M. A. Baby and Vice-chancllor of Kannur University P. K. Michael Tharakan were present.
