TN gets 10,080 more Engineering seats

With the AICTE giving clearance for 42 new engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu on Thursday, it is projected that an additional 10,080 seats would be available for the ongoing single window counselling.

The Anna University's vice-chancellor and AICTE's southern region chairman, Dr P. Mannar Jawahar, told that the AICTE's executive committee scrutinised the applications of societies and trusts which had applied for starting new engineering colleges in the state.

Speaking over the phone from New Delhi, he told, "After careful scrutiny, 42 engineering colleges got cleared with 240 seats each, totaling 10,080 seats. With this, the state will have 489 engineering colleges in all with 1,23,460 seats."

Apart from the 42 new engineering colleges, 6 new management colleges and 1 Architecture College were also approved by AICTE on Thursday.

On the other hand, the secretary of Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions, Dr V. Rhymend Uthariaraj, revealed that as many as 1,279 candidates had not turned up for counselling until Thursday.
