NIT-T submits proposal to set up CoE

The National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirapalli (NIT-T) has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) for establishing a Centre of Excellence in Biomedical engineering.

Official sources said the proposal has been submitted jointly by S Raghavan, Professor, Department of Electronics and Communications Engineering (ECE) and N Sivakumaran of Instrumental and Control Engineering Department (ICE).

'A truly inter-disciplinary branch of engineering, BioMEMS (Biology- MicroElectroMechanical Systems) plays a very big role both in diagnosis and therapeutics,' sources added.

According to Prof Raghavan, the dimensions being in micrometers, one will not experience the pain of pricking. Only little quantity of blood or urine is taken as sample for pathological study.
