Online exam registration at Kerala University

Updated on: Tuesday, April 28, 2009

The Software for Web-enabled Exam Transactions (SWEET) developed by Kerala University’s computer centre allows students to register online for various examinations.

Exam registration at Kerala University has just got ‘SWEET’-er. Thanks to the Software for Web-enabled Exam Transactions (SWEET) developed by the university’s computer centre, students can now register online for various examinations.

For starters, those registering for the fourth semester B.Tech. examinations scheduled for May 2009 can do away with filling up forms and standing in queues.

The software has been designed in such a manner that all categories of students—regular, supplementary, improvement, lateral entry and part-time—can make use of it.
Three methods

According to computer centre director V. Ajayakumar, the online registration can be done in three ways. As per the first method, regular students can directly feed registration data into the computer by logging on to the site http://kucc.keralauniversity.edu.

The college authorities too can register students online. Both these methods provide teachers the facility to verify the details given to the computer. This verification can be done at three access levels—senior advisor, department head and principal. Then, in order to give the nod to an entire batch of students for writing a particular examination all that the principal or department head has to do is to press a button.

In the case of students with insufficient attendance percentage or students against whom there are disciplinary procedures, applications can be re-submitted online once the student is allowed to write the examination.
Verifying eligibility

In the third method, the computer itself can be relied upon to verify the eligibility of a student or batch of students to write an examination. By logging on to http://kucc.keralauniversity.edu and clicking on the ‘registration’ sub menu of the ‘student’ main menu, a student reaches the ‘candidate login’ page.

Then the student has to submit his name, candidate code and password to access a table giving all examination-related details of that student. This table will also contain all relevant details about each examination, including the last date for submitting applications.

The ‘click here for registration’ button then leads the student to individual examination. The scheme of an examination, semester, time and year of examination, college, year of admission and the centre can be known by clicking on the ‘confirm details’ button.

The student can then record his intention to write individual papers by clicking on the boxes given beside the name of each examination. Then, the student should submit details regarding caste and eligibility for fee concessions.

The preferred method for paying the examination fee too can be registered. The computer will then display the total fee that is to be paid by the student for that examination.
Fee payment

Once the student submits the details of the fee paid—either at a FRIENDS centre or at the university cash counter—the registration process is complete. Students who write supplementary or improvement examinations can also register in this manner. There is also a provision in SWEET for bulk registration of a batch of students.
