Bangalore: The Indian Institute of Science (IISC) and Centre for Study of Science, Technology and Policy (CSTEP), Bangalore-based non-profit thinktank, entered into a partnership for research in technologies in energy, information and communications, materials and infrastructure.

'As part of the collaboration, two of our major initial forays are to design and develop a 10 mw solar thermal power plant and a prototype Smart Grid', Anshu Bharadwaj Director CTEP told reporters after the inking of MoU here.

'The plant would be the largest solar thermal plant in the country and serve as a test-bed for the industry as a whole', said Rahul Tongia, Prgramme Director CSTEP.

The development and operation of the proposed solar thermal power plant is expected to provide a platform for joint academic/industry research and development in materials and other technologies to improve efficiency, manfacturability and scaling.

'Smart Grids', Tongia said, utilise digital technologies to improve efficiency, stability and management of electricity system.
