Engineering grads told to contribute nation's development

Rasipuram: 'Young engineering graduates should contribute to the sustainable growth of the country’s economy', said M. Ponnavaikko, Vice- Chancellor, Bharathidasan University .

Delivering the Graduation Day address at the Muthayammal Engineering College the Bharathidasan University Vice-Chancellor M. Ponnavaikko pointed out that a large number of people in the country were living below the poverty line and the young engineers should make use of their skills to improve the socio-economic condition of all sections of people in the society.

 
The younger generation should commit themselves to bring in a positive change in the society and a balanced growth.

The present trend should change and all the students in the country should be given opportunities to pursue higher education.

Suggesting students to update their knowledge continuously, he said practical knowledge was important to emerge successful in the competitive world. Apart from degree programmes, students should also try to join professional courses to improve their skills to match the industry requirements. But many students do not show interest in professional courses, he pointed out.

Mr. Ponnavaikko also hinted on the importance of teamwork, developing positive attitude and leadership traits.

Later, he presented degree certificates to 480 students. College Chairman R. Ramasamy presided over the function. College Principal M. Madheswaran spoke.
