The Karpaga Vinayaga Institute of Management in Pudukottai recently celebrated its first Foundation Day. S. Gopinath, General Manager (Operations), BHEL, Tiruchi, and CII chairman, Tiruchi, was the chief guest. He outlined the essential traits of a good leader. He emphasised on the importance of team work. He distributed prizes to the winners in various competitions. Kavitha Subramanian, the management trustee, presided over the function. S. Ganesan, Director of the institute, delivered keynote address.

The Placement Cell of J.J. College of Arts and Science at Sivapuram in Pudukottai recently organised a job fair. Seven companies conducted interviews and selected 115 students. S. Regupathy, former Union Minister, handed over the registration forms to the candidates at the job fair. Placement orders were issued to the selected candidates.

The Department of Management Studies of the college organised a lecture programme. A.J. Arul Chellakumar, Academic Secretary to the Vice-Chancellor of Bharathidasan University presided. S. Solaiappan, Director of Management Studies, spoke.

The Computer Science Department of Jayaram College of Engineering and Technology at Karattampatti near Tiruchi, recently organised one-day workshop on ‘Web page design using HTML' for school students. More than 120 students of Thuraiyur area including Ragavendra Matriculation School, Zamindar Higher Secondary School, Raj Vidya Bhavan School and Government High School took part in the workshop. Sujatha, Principal of Ragavendra Matriculation School, Thuraiyur, was the chief guest.

The Department of Management Studies of J.J. College of Engineering and Technology, recently organised a guest lecture programme on ‘Skill development, need of the hour.' Ramakrishnan, vice-president, Academic Learning Services, Virtuosity Skill Development Private Limited, Chennai, was the resource person. He said that the MBA graduates have more job opportunities but have to face challenges in the prevailing competitive scenario. He said that his organisation was also offering skill development courses.

The Marketing Club of the department conducted ‘Manofest'10,' a programme on product launch.

M. A. M. College of Engineering, Siruganur, has signed a MoU with Oracle Corporation for industry – institution interaction programme. Based on this, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of the college is organising a ten-day Oracle workforce development programme for the final year CSE students, which commenced recently. M. A. Maluk Mohamed, Principal, inaugurated the workshop.

In his address he highlighted the growth of IT industries and the need for qualified and skilled professionals in the current scenario. He spoke on the importance and opportunities in the field of research and development. He advised the students to develop logical thinking to face interviews.

He said that the faculty members of the college periodically undergo faculty development programmes organised by reputed institutions like National Institute of Technology, Tiruchi, IIT, Chennai, Delhi, Bombay and IIIT, Bangalore. The college recently conducted a ten-day aptitude training programme for the second year students and it was organised by Blue Lotus, Chennai.
