New Delhi: A change in pattern and a higher standard of the question paper surprised candidates of the AIEEE , a million students appeared

In All India Engineering Entrance Examination , 35 questions in each paper last year, there were 30 questions in the physics, chemistry and mathematics papers this year.

Over a million students who appeared for the AIEEE exam conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Examination (CBSE) were suprised by the change as some found the questions tough.

'The questions in mathematics section were very tough and time consuming. It took a lot of time to attempt these questions. Though questions in chemistry and physics were relatively easy,' said Himanshu, a candidate.

'Though the questions asked were less as compared to last year, but it was of no avail as the standard of the paper was very high,' said Ruchika, a candidate who appeared for test .

Experts also say the question papers in this year's AIEEE 2009 were more 'complex' in comparison to last year.

'The questions asked in mathematics in this year's AIEEE were lengthy and conceptual. The level of questions can be compared with questions asked in Mathematics section of IIT-JEE,' J C Chaudhary, Managing Director Aakash Institutes, said.
