Tata Group Contributing to Education

Tata Group is one of the oldest philanthropic organizations in India providing great educational infrastructure. Tata trusts have helped India and its citizens in myriad ways by creating a number of funds for the benefit of aspiring students. All the companies in Tata Group are known for their contribution in the welfare of the communities and this group pioneers in the field of education.
The Sir Dorabji Tata Trust was set up in 1932 with grant-making patterns like endowment grants, grants to individuals and grants to non-governmental organizations. Of late Tata has promoted its education facilities in Tatanagar, Jamshedpur. The trust makes grants to non-governmental organizations in various fields including education wherein it focuses on education of children, adolescents and adults within and outside the formal education system.

Earlier this year, McGraw-Hill Education announced its partnership with Tata to deliver advanced professional training courses. The training will be provided in banking/financial services so that these skills help improve our global economy. As part of McGraw-Hill’s educational service initiative, it has launched a certificate course in Retail Sales and Service. Mr. Ratan Tata, Chairman Tata Group was quoted as saying, “India’s employers need skilled and knowledgeable workers and Tata McGraw-Hill’s programs are helping develop the human capital that companies need to continue to grow their businesses and drive India’s economic expansion.â€
The J.N. Tata scholarship is another initiative wherein Indian students who want to study abroad are given a golden opportunity as this endowment offers them full financial support.
 
 The applications are invited from all over the country and around 120 candidates are selected for J.N.Tata scholarship to pursue courses like applied sciences, engineering, biological sciences, commerce, architecture, art and protective services.

In 1892, Jamsetji Tata established endowment scheme for higher studies and this scheme helped thousands of people to become engineers, doctors and scientists. Under JN Tata Endowment Scheme the education of some of the most brilliant students in the country were funded through grants and loans. Another trust run by the Tata Group to boost the education scenario in India is Lady Meherbai Tata Education Trust.
 
Set up in 1932, this trust grants special scholarship to young Indian women who have graduated from reputed Indian universities and want to make a career in the field of public health and social work. Now after a long time, Tata Sons, the promoters of Tata Group are venturing into the field of education. This 1000 crore plan will include the setting up of schools with grades starting from kindergarten to twelfth across tier-1 cities in its initial phase. The company officials said, “We have been working on some sectors of education for quite some time but have not identified a concrete investment proposal for the same yet
