Indian engineers set to dominate the world

Updated on: Saturday, April 25, 2009

Chennai: Further than working competitively and with excellence Indian engineering education should encourage working collaboratively, said T. Ramasamy, secretary, Department of Science and Technology.

Speaking at the ninth convocation ceremony of Easwari Engineering College, Dr. Ramasamy said some challenges could be encountered effectively only through teamwork and not through independent effort.

Dr. Ramasamy also called for evolving a different system of engineering education that prepared young minds to solve problems rather than simply understanding them. He envisages that Indian engineers would soon dominate the world.

T.R.Pachamuthu, founder-chairman, SRM group of institutions and chancellor, SRM University, urged alumni to be expert employees. The alumni maintaining a good track record at work spot play an important role towards job-seeking graduates, he said.

The principal-in-charge, K. Kathiravan, said that the college planned to start an incubation centre to persuade students to become job-generators rather than job seekers. The college also proposed to sign five MoUs with various institutions in the fields of education, training, and scientific and industrial research.

Latter, Dr. Ramasamy conferred degrees on 145 post-graduate and 399 graduate students.
