Controversy over University land

Updated on: Friday, March 20, 2009

Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker, Ishwardas Rohani directed the government to examine the land mentioned by the Congress for developing the campus of Indira Gandhi Central Tribal University at Amarkantak is a forestland or a revenue land.

The Speaker issued the directives when the Congress MLA and former minister Bisahulal Singh during the question hour wanted to know that despite availability of 448.322 hectares of land in Amarkantak, why the same was not being allotted by the government for developing the campus of the country's first tribal university.

Replying to Singh's query, Revenue Minister, Karan Singh Verma said that the university has been allotted 64 acres of land so far and since the other land, which it was demanding, is a forestland, it cannot be allotted to the university.
