IISc. invites applications for various courses

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc.), Bangalore, has invited applications for admission to the following programmes.

Integrated Ph.D.

The institute offers exciting opportunities to Bachelor's degree holders with a keen sense of scientific enquiry for pursuing advanced research in areas such as biological, physical, chemical and mathematical sciences leading to Ph.D. degree.

The number of seats available in each discipline is 12 (total 42 seats). First class Bachelor's degree holders in biology, mathematics, chemistry and physics under the 10 +2+3 pattern of education can apply. BE/ B.Tech. degree holders with a first class degree can apply for mathematical science. Those in the final year of their qualifying examination can also apply.

The selection is based on an entrance test to be held on April 25 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. followed by an interview. All students who join the integrated Ph.D. programme are eligible for IISc scholarships ranging from Rs.8,000 to Rs.14,000.

ME, M.Tech. and M.Des.

The IISc. will admit about 300 students for these courses. The disciplines available for ME/M.Tech. courses are aerospace engineering, chemical engineering, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, materials engineering, computer science and engineering, telecommunication engineering, electrical engineering, microelectronic systems, signal processing, system science automation, electronic design technology, computational science, climate science, instrumentation, transportation and infrastructure engineering.

Bachelor's degree holders in engineering with a minimum second class in the relevant discipline or a second class Master's degree in physics with electronics/ instrumentation as subjects and a valid GATE score can apply. Those in the final year of their qualifying examination can also apply.


For admission to this course, the entry qualification is BE / B.Tech / B.Des. / B.Arch. The applicants should have passed GATE or CEED. A design aptitude test and interview will be conducted at the institute on April 22-23. The final selection will be based on the performance in the design aptitude test and interview.

The IISc. has also invited applications for research programmes leading to M.Sc./Ph.D. in engineering. Detailed information regarding eligibility, specialisation and areas of research can be obtained from the website www.iisc.ernet.in/

admissions. Application forms and other details can be obtained from the select branches of Canara Bank on payment of Rs.700.

Candidates can also write to the Deputy Registrar (academics), admission unit, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore-560012 along with a demand draft of Rs.700 drawn in favour of the registrar, IISc., Bangalore. Candidates can also apply online till March 17. Last date for receipt of the completed application forms is March 22.
