SSC introduces test reforms

New Delhi : Marking a new chapter in reforming the examination process, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will hold simultaneous exams for graduate-level tests from this year, besides introducing online application and payment processes for them.

The 'Combined Graduate Level Examination, 2010' will substitute five earlier examinations - Combined Graduate Level Examination, Tax Assistant Examination, Sub Inspectors in Central Police Organisations Examination, Statistical Investigator Gr II Examination, and Compilers in RGI Examination, according to the government.

While the written examination will be conducted in two tiers, candidates applying for multiple posts will need to submit only a single application with onetime payment of examination fee and the entire recruitment process will now be completed in about a year's time, against almost two years at present for Combined Graduate Level Examination.

Besides, all papers will have only objective type multiple choice questions, and Interview/Personality Test will be only for posts for which interaction with general public will be necessary immediately after entry into service.

The new format will help faster completion of the recruitment, selection and placement process, said the government adding that the new process follows recommendations of the Second Administrative Reforms Commission (2nd ARC) which had made various proposals including having a single short listing examination for posts for which graduation is the minimum educational qualification.
