'Science mein twist' to attract school students to research

New Delhi: 'Catch them young' seems to be the buzzword to attract youngsters towards basic science. The Ministry of Science and Technology, in association with the National Geographic channel, has come out with a 10-part series 'Science Mein Twist' aimed at generating interest for science and technology in school-going children.

"The whole idea is to reach the target audience of young children and excite them about science," Minister of Science and Technology Prithviraj Chavan said at a function to unveil the series which will be telecast on the channel from Monday.

 The private channel, which has produced the series, will have exclusive rights to it for six months following which it will be dubbed in seven regional languages and aired on Doordarshan.  This initiative is part of an innovative year-long campaign announced by the Ministry and the channel to  promote Indian science and technology.

"Through this series, we look forward to creating more awareness amongst people, especially school students and to further encourage the spirit of scientific inquiry," he said.  The film has been shot at various laboratories of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research.

'Cutting Carbon', a documentary produced by the channel, that takes up the serious issue of global warming and attempts to encourage individuals to do their bit to save our planet, was also unveiled on the occasion.
